What is usually going wrong
Your CV is mostly whitespace
Name, education, one line of skills — and a page that looks empty because nobody told you what else legitimately fills it.
Postings all demand 2+ years
Entry-level roles asking for experience feel like a rigged game. Often the requirement is a wish list, not a filter — but your CV still has to argue the case.
Your applications sound apologetic
"Although I have no experience…" is the weakest opening in job hunting. Hiring for potential is normal; framing yourself as a risk is optional.
What actually moves the needle
- 1
Count what you have done
Course projects, thesis work, volunteering, society roles, part-time jobs, freelance gigs, hackathons — all are experience. Present them like jobs: title, organization, dates, results.
- 2
Lead with skills and projects
Put a skills section and two or three concrete projects above the fold. "Built a budgeting app used by 200 students" beats an empty work history every time.
- 3
Write a summary that aims forward
Two lines: what you are trained in, what you have built, what you are looking for. Confident and specific beats long and apologetic.

Straight answers
How long should a CV be with no experience?
One page. A short, full page beats a padded two pages at this stage — recruiters hiring for potential want evidence of initiative, not length.
Should I include my part-time or student jobs?
Yes. Retail, hospitality, and tutoring show reliability, customer handling, and time management. Frame them by what you did and improved, not just where you worked.
Do employers really hire people with no experience?
Constantly — that is what entry-level roles, internships, and graduate schemes are for. They hire on evidence of learning speed and initiative, which projects and coursework demonstrate.
